BAKUCHIOL
Category: Hydrator  Key functions: Soothes, hydrates, conditions, rejuvenates What: A natural plant-based alternative to retinol that smooths and firms the skin. Source: An extract derived from the leaves and seeds of the babchi plant. Benefits:  A powerful hydrator that is friendly with sensitive skin and safe to use both in the morning and at night. Studies have shown that it is just as effective as retinol in treating winkles and hyperpigmentation, without the dryness and stinging found using retinol. PRUNUS AMYGDALUS DULCIS (SWEET ALMOND)

Category: Hydrator

Key functions: 

Soothes, hydrates, calms, protects

What: Sweet almond oil containing anti-inflammatory and immunity-bossting properties. It is also incredibly rich in vitamin D, E, various minerals and fatty acids.

Source: Almonds (please check for allergy)

Benefits:  An incredible hydrator that reduces skin irritation, calms inflammation, rejuvenates and evens the skin, while offers protection from the sun, and provides antioxidants.

SQUALANE
Category: Emollient Key functions: Calms, protects, softens, moisturizes What: Squalane is a lipid that is naturally found in the skin and secreted by the sebaceous glands.

Source: Naturally sourced from plants such as olives and sugar canes.

Benefits: A rich emollient that softens and moisturizes the skin, as well as calms inflammation and regulates oil production.

Used in:

ROSEHIP OIL
Category: Oil Key functions: Brightens, rejuvenates, calms, hydrates Rosehip oil is an ultra-effective hydrator with high levels of vitamins and essential fatty acids especially omega-3 and omega-6 (linolenic acid), which are ideal to target blemish and hyperpigmentation.

Source: It is also known as rosehip seed oil, derived from the small fruit that sits beneath the rose.

Benefits: Rosehip Oil is known for its exceptional regenrative and healing properties that can increase collagen production and skin elasticity while brightens, calms, hydrates and combats blemishes.

EVENING PRIMROSE OIL
Category: Oil Key functions: Softens, conditions, Moisturizes, calms It has a long history of skincare use as Native Americans used it to soothe inflammations.

Source: Derived from the seeds of the evening primrose plant, Oenothera biennis.

Benefits: Being rich in omega-6 essential fatty acids including Linoleic acid, this oil has anti-inflammatory properties. It can help improve the skin's moisture by reducing transepidermal water loss and brighten skin tone.

MORINGA OIL
Category: Emollient Key functions: Smooths, soothes What: Rich in omega fatty acids and antioxidants which sooth and protect the skin. This oil can be used daily and works well with most ingredients.

Source: Derived from the seeds of the moringa plant found in the Himalayan mountains.

Benefits: It contains 40% monounsaturated fatty acids, with 70% of that being oleic acid, which makes it great for supporting the skin barrier, which seals in hydration and protects us from environmental pollutants. It can be effective at plumping fine lines and balancing natural oil.

GLYCERIN
Category: Hydrator Key functions: Hydrates, smooths What: Works as a humectant, as it attracts moisture from the air into the top layer of skin and continues to draw moisture to the deeper layers of the dermis.

Source: Usually a naturally occurring compound in the body. In our skincare, it is derived from plants.

Benefits: An effective moisturizer that supports the skin barrier and prevent loss of water which allows natural oils to nourish and repair.

OLEA EUROPAEA (OLIVE) FRUIT OIL
Category: Emollient Key functions: Moisturizes, protects, conditions What: Among high-performing plant oils, and is praised for its emollient, moisturizing properties.

Source: Derived from pressing the oil out of whole olive fruit.

Benefits: Olive oil is rich in vitamins A, D, K , E and squalene that can help precent premature aging and protect against pollutants.

HYALURONIC ACID
Category: Hydrator Key functions: Moisturizes, smooths, conditions, softens What: A molecule found naturally in your skin, and it acts as a lubrication agent for our body parts. It is a moisture binder, which will attach itself to water as well as draw moisture from the air, holding almost 1000 times its weight in water.

Source: HA is naturally found in human tissues. The HA we use in our products is extracted from plants through microbial fermentation.

Benefits: HA mainly functions as a humectant, attaracting water from the stmosphere or from deep within to hydrate the outermost layer of the skin. It also has marvelous anti-aging and repairing properties which can reduce fine lines, and improve skin rejuvenation.

AVENA SATIVA (OAT) KERNEL FLOUR EXTRACT
Category: Hydrator Key functions: Moisturizes, soothes, protects What: A finely powdered form of Oat Extract that has the same skin soothing, skin protecting and antioxidant benefits.

Source: Flour produced from the seeds of the oat plant.

Benefits: High concentration of starches and beta-glucans in oat work wonders in protecting and retaining water, especially for dry and sensitive skin. This extract also offers antifungal activity and UVA protection.

PERSEA GRATISSIMA (AVOCADO) OIL
Category: Emollient Key functions: Hydrates, soothes, conditions What: This oil is enriched in high levels of antioxidants, moisturizing fatty acids and contains a large amount of minerals and essential vitamins, such as A, E and D.

Source: Persea Gratissima Oil is the fixed oil obtained by pressing the dehydrated sliced flesh of avocado.

Benefits: Avocado oil has extraordinary skin penetration abilities and can nourish, soften and hydrate different skin layers. It is also naturally antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory.

CAMELLIA SINENSIS (GREEN TEA) LEAF EXTRACT
Category: Plant extract Key functions: Hydrates, soothes, conditions What: Also known as green tea extract, with active micronutrients called Polyphernols, or more precisely Catechin, which have powerful antioxidant effects on the skin. Our high quality green tea extract contains a high level of Catechins (at 50%-90%).

Source: Extracted from the leaf of the Camellia Sinensis flower plant.

Benefits: Green tea is one of the most research natural ingredients, and proven to be a great antioxidant, UV protectant, anti-inflammatory, anticarcinogenic and antimicrobial.

HAMAMELIS VIRGINIANA (WITCH HAZEL) FLOWER EXTRACT
Category: Plant extract Key functions: Cleanses, conditions What: Dubbed a "magic water", witch hazel has been used for centuries in traditional medicine to heal swelling and bruises.

Source: From a plant with fragrant yellow flowers found in North America and Asia known as the Hamamaelis Virginiana plant.

Benefits: The most significant benefit of witch hazel is its abiility to control excess oil, along with healing, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anti-bacterial properties.

CAPRYLIC / CAPRIC TRIGLYCERIDE (LIGHT COCONUT)
Category: Emollient Key functions: Hydrates, conditions What: Coconut oil contains lauric acid, a fatty acid known to have antimicrobial properties, which can help kill bacteria on the skin and reduce inflammation. High levels of linoleic acid is also found in coconut oil, an unsaturated omega-6 fatty acid that can be used as an emollient and skin soother.

Source: Derived from coconuts

Benefits: Coconut oil sits on top of the skin, trapping moisture underneath, helping smooth the skin and lock in existing moisture. Other benefits including antibacterial, skin plumping, anti-aging, and smoothing the skin.

GLYCERIN
Category: Hydrator Key functions: Hydrates, conditions What: Glycerin works as a humectant, it attracts moisture from the air into the top layer of skin, and due to its low molecular weight, will continue to draw moisture to the deeper layers of the dermis.

Source: Glycerin is a naturally occurring compound in the body. In Equilabo skincare, it is derived from plants.

Benefits: Glycerin's main function is to prevent the loss of moisture, which in turn makes it an effective moisturizer. It also protects the skin from harsh products to keep the skin soft, supple and hydrated.

STEARIC ACID
Category: Emollient Key functions: Smooths, softens What: A moisturizing fat or a natural compenent that can be found in many skincare ingredients such as cocoa butter and shea butter.

Source: A saturated, long-chain fatty acid found naturally in various animal and plant fat, though stearic acid in Equilabo skincare is derived from plants only.

Benefits: Stearic acid is a sensitive-skin-friendly emollient that can soften and smooth the skin, which also helps decrease signs of aging and form a layer of protection on the skin barrier.
